This week, we were trimming trees and bushes. I went out back and was standing on the deck looking up at one of the trees we planned to trim. Oops, what is that I saw!!!! A huge nest we could not see when we were standing in the gate looking up.
Stan got the hose and started watering it down. (See my pretty new gate in the background)
It eventually disintegrated and fell down. Since then I found out that there are people who will remove them for free. Apparently they are able to sell them for medical research. Never heard of that, but my brothers showed me the ads in the papers. Well, if there is a next time I may call them. For now, the nest is down and the wasps are looking for a new home.

Yikes! Wasps are really aggressive!
Impressive hive, though.
I think I would have worried about the wasps getting angry and attacking, but I sure am glad that everything went fine for y'all!
We used to get ground wasps, and they were scary becauyse you never really knew where they were!
We were looking all around on the ground cause that is where we thought they were coming from.
Yep its that time of the year.
My son tore down a muddobbers dirt nest built in my siding on the carport eves.A big long tube of dried mud and they were building another one on the side of it. Right over my biggest Table.
glad he didn't get stung with a lot of them.
Around here the next thing is yellow jackets .They want to build in the ground not far from my front porch the last 3 falls. Guess I need to get out there and remove all the 4 o'clock flowers and open up the area.
that just gives me the heebeegeebees!
yikes! i woulda run thru the yard shrieking if it had been any where near ME! (believe me - i do this, with ticks, other unsightly bugs. my husband thinks i'm crazy.)
Safety first is my motto. I wouldn't have thought to save it for someone to come take for research. If it ever happens here I'll remember this tho. Hope your hubby is ok.
Phew - those things are so aggressive this time of year. Fantastic new gate, I love it!
