I am not complaining

But I have learned what the Sandwich Generation is and it is not fun at all. I am exhausted!! I am so blessed to still have my mother and I do not mind caring for her at all. That being said, I am still tired. I do not have any energy and absolutely no creative juice is flowing in my veins. Thus the dry empty blog of the past month. I am praying for mother to continue to improve and soon be able to care for herself. Right now she is fighting being independent. She wants to be waited on hand and foot. Today she told me she wanted to get dressed so we went to her bedroom. She sat down on her bed and I picked out some clothes from her closet, with her guidance, and put them on her bed. I said, "Now mother, you can put these on." She replied to me, "No Evelyn, I want you to dress me." I told her that I would help her put her compression socks on, but she had to do the rest. Once we got her socks on, I sat down and told her to go ahead. She did it with little trouble, but she did not want to. When she was done, I praised her and told her she did a great job. Reminds me of caring for a four year old, but this one is my mother.
On Friday, I went shopping and prepared five meals for her. All my brothers or her caretaker has to do is take them from the freezer and cook them. Do not have anything in my house to eat, but mother is eating well. Today I made her the most flavorful asparagus leek quiche. I did have a nibble of it and now I want to go to the store for ingredients so we can have one.

Well just in case you haven't heard it....I commend you for all your hard work. Not only the actual work you do but by pressing forward and "letting" your mother remember she can do it all on her own. I know that sometimes this can be difficult. Way to hang in there!!!! :)

Thanks Cristie, sometimes it is real hard not to just do it.

Hey Evy,
It takes a strong person to do what you are doing, I have been there with my mom, and have had the same situations as you. You are a special person and you will look back at this and remember all that you are doing. Your sibings wont have the same joys. Keep up the good work. your mom really appreciates you, your are her angel. Keep up the good work.

It makes me sad to read this. I never thought the day would come when Grandma would stop. I hope she finds her go soon.

You can come eat at my house. I just spent all our money on food today.
The 4 year old (who does not ride in the cart) made it 3/4 of the way, leaned in to me, and said, "I'm done shopping now. Go to the line, please."

I've been worried about you since I haven't "seen" much of you. I'm still praying.

I made a yummy Endive, walnut and parmesan salad yesterday. I would be happy to share it with you. You're doing a great job. I know you're exhausted and emotionally drained my dear. I'll say extra prayers for you and your mom to regain the desire for her independence. Love you! Did I mention we'll be in WA mid June. We return from our trip to Europe June 16th and will be in Sequim til the afternoon of the 20th. Maybe we can squeeze Applebees in this time.

Wow, You are blessing your mother in two ways; caring for her and helping her regain her independance. Bless you. Kathi

Thank you for being an example for all of us. Its ok to be tired, its ok to get frustrated, upset, angry or hurt with this situation....but you keep going back & doing the good works with love and compassion! {{{{{HUGS}}}} with an extra squeeze, you and yours are in my prayers
