During Christmas Week

We were treated to a White Christmas

.

My front yard and back deck.

This week we are dealing with this. Fortunately we live securely on a hill. We are in no danger of sliding off. We also live on the "right" side of the river so we will not be stranded.

My daughter Angie, and her family, on the other hand, live on the other side of the river. They may not be able to cross over tomorrow to come to town for work and school. Gina lives
in a flood plain and may still be evacuated tonight.

The pictures are of the river that flows through my town, taken at the city park. The picture below shows how high the water has come on the stairs leading from the park down to the river. All of western Washington is currently under some sort of flood watch or warning at this time.

More of my Christmas projects

Cooper in all his cowboy regalia including the vest Gramma made him.

We made these little gumdrop trees for the neighbor children. Amanda and Shay helped me. I got the idea for these from Patrizza @ I Create.
Olivia modeling the jammies I made. I wanted to take pictures of Elizabeth and Abby also but their mommy had already packed everything into the car. I made five sets of jammie bottoms for the boys. I was either to lazy or tired by the time I got to them to make tops so I went to the store and bought T-shirts to match the colors in the bottoms.
Baby Darius is ready for the day to be over. He would model the hat as long as Daddy continued to hold him.
I made seven of these hats.

Christmas 2008

I know for most of you Christmas is over. Our family, however, celebrated on New Years day. The above pictures are some of what I was working on so furiously for the past month. Some, like the socks were works in process. I finished and kept them. I do have a grandson who would love his gramma to make him a pair though. The scarves I have been working on during the year. They are a great way to use up yarn that is left from other projects. The hats and mittens I made just before Christmas. Was so happy to have all finished and am now looking for new projects to start.
Actually, my granddaughter Shay gave me a gift certificate to a local Quilt shop so I combined it with an additional $30.00 for fabric to make a quilt. It will be a long project, as I progress I will try to share it with you. I am sure it will take a good part of the year to do. There is always something that needs knit also. Olivia wants me to knit her a skirt and tank top. I am wondering how a four year old becomes so opinionated about her clothes. I bought the yarn to make her a sweater, but she does not want one.

As you are driving down the

road to my house through our cookie cutter neighborhood, you will see these six homes as you turn onto my street.

Mine is the fifth home. But pay attention to home number three. Can you see where this is going? . Dave, Tricia & boys live in Vancouver about 208 miles south of me. Dave has not been up to my house for a year or more. Tricia and the boys came on Tuesday. On Wednesday afternoon we had some errands to run and Dave was on his way up here. Not wanting to lock him out, Tricia called him to see where he was. He was about 30 miles south of us so we told him we would leave the front door unlocked so he could get in. We went shopping and Dave arrived safely in our neighborhood. He drove up to the house, got out of his car and went inside. Stan and I have been making improvements on our home since we bought it, so that the house looked different was not anything to raise any alarms to him. He came up the carpeted stairs, mine are hardwood, into the dining room. He walked over to the white refrigerator, mine is black, and put his groceries in it. He sat down at the pub table, mine is a formal dining table, and read his news paper. After about 20 minutes nature called and he went down the hall to the dirtiest bathroom he had ever seen. Ding, ding, ding, Evy's bathroom never looks like this.......hmmm what is happening. Back down the hall to use the bathroom in the master bedroom which sported an unmade bed and wide screen TV. Again, ding, ding, ding, Evy does not have a wide screen TV and her bed is always made. Out to the living room to the brown sectional, mine is a red set, and diapers all over the floor. Hmmm something is really wrong, downstairs to the bedroom they usually sleep in, open the door and the room is full of targets, you know, like target practice targets. " Hey, I have to be in the wrong house!!!" Back upstairs, grab the paper, get his shoes on and beat it out of the house and down to Stan's office to see which house is the right one. Once he gets down there and tells Stan what happened, he realizes that he left the groceries in the refrigerator.
When he related the story to me by phone, I told him I would go down and tell my neighbor what had happened and ask for the groceries from the fridge.
Dave went back to the neighborhood and to the fifth house, mine. After a while he decided to go tell the neighbors himself so he walked down to the house, knocked on the door but there was no answer. He opened the door and hollered "hello." There was no response, so he ran in and up the stairs and grabbed his groceries from the fridge and back down and out. Whew, he made it!!!

This is Dave, relaxing in my living room, reading his paper.
To my neighbors, if you read this blog, he is mortified and sorry. He promises to always go to the fifth house on the right, not the third.

WORLDS BIGGEST

SNOWMAN. When you look at the picture, that is a six foot fence behind the snowman. I found this while I was driving during the storms last week. I am pretty sure that the farmer plowed his driveway and piled the snow at the end then sculpted it. No matter, it is the biggest I have ever seen!
