Pepper and I drove across the mountains to Yakima. I have an Aunt over there. One of the two or three remaining of my parents generation. She was the wife of mom's brother. She will be 93 in a couple of weeks. You know, really, I do want to live that long. She has had a very good life and enjoys good health. She still lives alone in the home she and my Uncle shared. She does need a walker now and she does tend to repeat her stories more often as well as forget names. But all in all, she is doing pretty good. I was not in a real hurry so instead of taking I-5 south and then 90 east, I meandered over the back roads. This route takes me right past Snoqualamie Falls. It was time for a stretch break so I stopped and took a couple of pictures. They were still quite full with snow melt and runoff.

I spent two days with my Aunt and started home on Wednesday morning. Quite by accident, I wound up going the wrong direction out of Yakima. I decided that instead of turning around, I would continue on and go to Toppenish and Zillah which are a bit further down the valley. I drove around Toppenish until I was able to find my Grandmothers house. It has been all dolled up, but still has the same bones. I wanted to take a picture of it, but got a bad case of the shy's. Silly me. My childhood home was in Zillah, so I drove up to my home there. Again a case of the shy. I guess I will have to make another trip. I think I may meet my cousin there in August so maybe we can go down together.

As I headed back up the freeway and got to Ellensburg, there was a sign along the highway that said that the drive from Ellensburg to the top of the pass was over an hour and half, so I took another detour. Had no reason to hurry at all. I cut across Blewett pass and connected with Stevens pass to head west on. Just as soon as I connected with Blewett, I came across this abandoned ranch. I had to stop and take a couple of pictures. I love the close up of the barn. I really am thinking of framing these two. I had them printed in 11x16 prints and they really are great.

With myself. I began blogging so I could keep a Journal of my life. Also to make friends. I have made many, but, I think they have given up on me posting regularly. Let's see if I can remedy that.

My last post was telling about the wonderful piece of property we had purchased on the Entiat River just north of Wenatchee Washington. I posted a picture of the platform we built down near the river. I spent one night on it freezing in our tent. It has to go down in history as one of my worst nights ever. I said I would not go back until I had a bed there. Soooo we took a bed over. In this picture, we are getting ready to leave so it is wrapped in a parachute, to protect the mattress from the elements. My patio table and chairs are on top to keep the parachute down. The wind blows down the canyon almost every day.

On Memorial Day weekend my daughter Angie and her husband, grandson and daughter came over. We had two of our other grandchildren with us as their parents were doing a big river float with friends. In this picture are my Grandson Jonah, my Great Grandson Jayce and my Granddaughter Olivia. They are trying out Papa's tractor.

Even though we asked the owner to remove his garbage from the property, he did not. I call this picture the Redneck trampoline. My Granddaughter Abigail and Grandson Jonah are jumping on a roll of hog wire. We aren't too upset about him leaving it as we are being able to use much of what he left. He even left the tractor the kids were on. Stan has hot wired it and used it every time we go over.

According to Chelan county you can build a building without permit if it is under 280 sq feet. Our building is, but they have decided they don't approve. First they slapped a stop work on it saying it was larger than the allowed. Next we were too close to the road, we weren't. Next we were too close to the river, wrong again. The inspector said he would release us to continue. However some woman sitting at her desk in town still is not satisfied and she wants the inspector to go inside to see what we are doing.

I have moved my bed inside. They are not too happy about that either. I told my builder son in law to just tell them that I am close to 70 years old, truth, I have a very difficult time walking, truth, and I cannot sleep on the ground, truth. Any one would be sleeping inside while they work on the property. I am sure as you drive up the river and see all of the tiny buildings built along it there are people sleeping inside at night. They are just being contrary and we may have to hire an attorney.
Since they stopped us, we only have half of the roof on. This is my view as I lie in bed.
We see deer across the river every morning and evening. These two have nice racks on them. They were getting ready to cross the river but changed their minds when they saw us watching.
There are also a couple of fawn across the river.
A neighbor told us how to drive around and up the mountain to see our property from above. Ours is the piece the upper side of the triangle created by the road and river. If you look closely, you can see the cabin that is in limbo in the upper corner of the property beside the trees. All of the property that you can see on the other side of the river is ours too. It does not go up the mountainside though. Sadly, there is a nearly 20,000 acre fire raging in the canyon right now. It is downriver from us and I feel pretty confident it won't make it all the way up to us. It may be wishful thinking on my part. So far no homes have been lost which is good news.

I sat down to write about something entirely different and that is what came.

Actually, my intention was to show you pictures of our property. We are so excited to have purchased. This shot is of the river. Entiat River in Eastern Washington. We bought close to 8 acres. Both sides of the river.

This shot is across the river. Currently the river is too high for us to cross it. There is no bridge. During the summer it will be an easy wade across. Our property goes up into those trees. Not sure how far though since we can't get across yet. It is OK though, we wanted that part just for the kids to go exploring.

This mountain shot is taken from our property. It is looking further up the valley. Not sure of it's name yet.

We spent a night two weeks ago. I am here to tell you, never again!! Not until it warms up or we have a cabin built. It was SOOOOOOOOO cold. Down in the 30's. Two pair of pajamas, wool socks and a coat on. As well as sleeping bag and down comforter over us. Not only was it cold, but I had two panic attacks during the night. Closed into a tiny tent is not my idea of comfort.

Pepper loved it though. She ran and ran and ran. She is over on the neighbor property in this picture. We don't have grass yet.

These geese were on the neighbors property too. We think they may have a nest there. They floated down river and then flew back up about 1/2 hour later.

Across the river again. I was watching the deer over there.

Stan is walking the road side of the property. Checking where we might put a cabin.

Platform we built down near the river. It is to sleep on until there is a cabin. If it warms up enough, I will actually take a bed over there and put it on the platform. I am too old to sleep on the ground~~~~~ever again.
We are looking forward to lots of fun hours over there. Perhaps some day moving onto the property permanently. I guess life will never be the same. I will miss her at every turn, something will always bring her to mind. Be it something I read, see or smell. She is always with me, yet she isn't. People tell me it takes a long time, they say the pain gets less and less with each passing day. I am still waiting. I know my life has to continue and I plod through every day, loving and caring for those who are still with me and missing the one who isn't. It affects my ability to blog and I really should not let it. She would be so mad at me if she knew. She told me to keep living and that I would be OK, yet I really am not. Sometimes I feel so selfish. I am not the only mother whose child has gone before her. I won't be the last either. Other times I feel so lost, so empty. There was so much to tell her, so much I wanted her to know about how deeply I loved her.......I wonder, did she really know. She had questions and I answered them, but did she believe me? Some day, soon, I will have my answer. Some day, I will sit with her again and I will be able to answer those questions for her. If she does not know now, I will tell her then.
Really, that was not what I came here to write, I try to keep it inside, now it isn't any longer. Now the world knows.
Krissy, it has been almost 16 months and still the tears flow every day. I know it is not what you wanted. It is not what I want either. I want to remember you as the bright beautiful giving woman you were, yet always in front of all are the questions, the ones I don't know if you really believed me when I answered them for you. Life is so full of if only's and mine is If Only I knew that you believed me. I loved you with all of my heart and soul and I await the day we can sit together again.
I love blogging, I just find myself with so many irons in the fire these days that blogging has taken a back seat to everything else.
I am deep into fund raising for my upcoming trip to Africa. I have a tentative date of November 2014 set for it.
I have a goal of taking 1000 dresses with me for the little girls I meet while I am there. I sew with an organization called Dress a Girl International. Their goal is that every little girl should have a pretty dress. We make very simple dresses and we give them wherever we see a need. In a third world country, one of our little dresses may also act as an insurance policy for the child wearing it. Often children are stolen and sold into the sex trade. It is known that little girls wearing the dresses we sew are less likely to be stolen because they look like they have someone who cares for and would miss them. http://www.dressagirlaroundtheworld.com/

In my desire to take 1000 dresses with me, I have had a website created giving you the opportunity to sponsor as many dresses as you would like for the little girls in Tanzania and Congo where I hope to be traveling. Dresses for sponsorship
If I am able to sponsor all 1000 dresses, I will be able to take between 12 and 15 thousand dollars with me to fund the projects I am connected with over there.
One of my current ideas is to present fashion shows highlighting the dresses I will be taking with me. I would love to have the opportunity to do so at ladies luncheons and parties in the coming year. I can do this easily here in the Pacific Northwest, but am also willing to travel outside of my comfort zone to do so. I have the ability to fly for free so I can go almost anywhere I am asked to come. Perhaps you would consider hosting a "fashion show" at one of your future luncheons. You can contact me through my website. My phone number is there.

Below are three dresses I will be taking with me. Just a sample of what is available for sponsorship.
It seems once you fall out of the blogging groove, it can be difficult to get back in. I am posting a few pictures of my life in recent days. Of course they have been filled with caring for grandchildren and great grandchildren. I have squeezed in some sewing and spent one day cleaning my house with the help of my friend Rebecca.
My sister Jacque who is suffering from cancer has been at my house for the past week. She generally lives in Seattle with one of her daughters. Last week she went to the hospital for a transfusion and they discovered she had pneumonia. After a couple of days in the hospital she came out here. This is the third time she has come and stayed a week with me because she has difficulty breathing in Seattle. She was very weak when she came out, but she seems to gain in strength. Having her here isn't any problem at all. She can do most things for herself, spends her time in her bed or in the living room on the couch. The only added work is the small meals she needs through out the day. She will be returning to Seattle on Tuesday as she needs treatment again during the week. She was getting a bit stir crazy (a good sign) on Saturday so we took a drive North and West to the little village of LaConner. It is a fun touristy town. It was a warm day and we took a very short walk along the shore of the Swinomish Channel. We both were pretty tired by the time we got home.
The web site for my Africa trip is up and running. http://www.netturtlestudios.com/evy/ I have about 100 dresses I need to take pictures of and get loaded onto the site. The sponsorship program is going very well. Since I announced it in early August, I have received $1000.00 in sponsorship. Only $14,000.00 to go. I will be doing a presentation at my church this coming Sunday.
I included the picture of my family because it makes me so happy every time I see it. The way we were. It was a happy bittersweet day. Knowing we would never have a complete family photo done again and being together as an entire family having a great day together.
Sick as she was, she always had a smile. But she cried too, yes she did. She did not want to die. She wanted to watch her sons grow up, finish their educations and marry. She wanted to grow old with Joseph, now he will grow old without her.
I did not have any favorite children. They all are very unique people who hold a special place in my heart. I am proud of each of them for the strong beautiful people they matured into. It might be a bad idea to try to catch up in one post, but here goes.
With my fundraising project, 30 dresses are now sponsored. That means I only have to find sponsors for 970 more dresses.

A person that I went to High School with sent me a check for $100.00. She said she wanted to help me dress the little boys and felt it would be better to send the money than try to buy things and mail them to me from Arkansas. This week, I went to JC Penny's and purchased 14 little shirts for $1.97 each. I do not have pictures of some others I also purchased, but of the $100.00, I have spent just over $50.00.

I also had $30.00 in Kohl's bucks so I spent them on these shirts and one pair of shorts. I paid $4.80 for the shirts and $1.97 for the shorts. The shirts are in sizes that will fit the bigger boys. The total came to about $32.00. As I was digging for the extra $2.00, I saw the register total go to $0.00. We had been talking about why I was buying the shirts and this kind lady discounted the amount over $30.00. I have to tell you that I keep running into this type of giving on a regular basis.

This is a dress I made by cutting the bottom from a tank top that I purchased on clearance from Kohl's and adding a skirt. I still need to press the seams, but I was anxious to share it.
My sister Susan has a store in a little town called LaConner which is about 50 miles North of Seattle. It is on the Swinomish Channel. It is a favorite Saturday destination. She took four of my dresses to her shop and offered them for sponsorship. I went up to her store today and collected over $100.00 that people have given to sponsor. Some one and some two dresses. It all adds up and confirms to me that God is blessing this project.
My cousin has created a website for me. It is not complete, but you can visit it at: http://www.netturtlestudios.com/evy/. Eventually, I will have all of the dresses available for sponsorship featured there. We have a couple of typos to correct and some other minor tweaking to do.

I almost always take my camera with me when I go for a drive. Going to LaConner was no exception. Pepper and I took a little walk while my sister was busy with customers in her store. This stairway is directly across the street from Susan's shop Remember Me.

They lead up the hill to this house. Which coincidentally is for sale. It is a lovely little town if anyone is interested.

I walked down to the waterfront and took this picture of the Rainbow Bridge, which connects the lands on either side of the Channel.

My sister Susan's shop Remember Me. A sweet little shop filled with consignments and her own items. Antique and new. Furniture to small household items and knick knacks. She has also featured my knit items in her store.
To get to LaConner, you pass through some of Western Washngton's most fertile farm land. I saw acre upon acre of cabbage still maturing in the fields.

I also saw many fields that have been harvested and put to sleep for the coming spring.

And other fields that were being readied for the Spring planting.

The road that this field was on is a very narrow windy road with absolutely no place to pull off of. Luckily, it is not a well traveled road and I was able to stop and roll down my window to get this shot. It is a corn field that has been harvested.

A tumble down barn on the corner where the road I was on connected with the main road.

Almost back out to the freeway, I came upon this tractor on the road. A common site in the farmland.

Yes, I did take its picture through my windshield as I was approaching it. Maybe not the safest thing to do, but I really wanted to document it too, as a part of my drive today.

Actually, I will probably be talking about it a lot as time goes by.
So, how do I know I am in God's will?
Let me tell you!
On Sunday, our family held their First Annual Semi Annual baby shower. We have a huge family and babies are coming faster than we can throw baby showers together. So we just took last Sunday to honor 6 new babies. Three are here and three are yet to be born. We had a great time, enjoying babies, each other, the food and the sun. I did not take any pictures though. Guess I was having to much fun. But, before I left home, I felt the need to load up my dresses and my knits and to take them with me. I fought back and forth with myself over it and finally came to the conclusion that I was being directed to take them, that I needed to be obedient. After all of the mommies opened their gifts and we were relaxing and chatting, I brought out my dresses and knits.
I explained to my family about the Dress a Girl project and how I was looking for sponsors for all 1000 dresses I plan to take with me to Tanzania. I had 12 dresses with me and every one of them was sponsored. I also sold one of my hats to a young woman that came as a guest of my sister. I left the party with $200.00 in my pocket and a song in my heart!!
Through out the week, I have gotten pledges of more money and received a check in the mail for $100.00. I also got an e-mail from a classmate from high school who currently lives in Florida. She said she has been feeling a burden for the little boys and instead of buying and sending me clothes she planned to send me a check. I truly feel God has directed this project and am trusting that it will go all the way. To Him is all the Praise and Glory!
My Africa trip is just a year away and I still need LOTS of money

I am taking a page from the book of another Dress A Girl seamstress who just made a trip to Uganda. She offered her dresses for sponsorship. I will soon be setting up a page with pictures of dresses that you will have the opportunity to sponsor.
Here is what we will do, you can choose as many dresses as you would like to sponsor. Let me know which one(s). Sponsorship will be $15.00 for one dress and $25.00 for two, so you could sponsor four for $50.00. With your sponsorship, you can send me a picture of you or your family, whatever and a short note of encouragement to the child that will receive your dress. I will place them with your dress for the child. You could possibly enclose a very small trinket if you wish. I will stress though, very small.
Payment can be made by sending me a check made payable to Bryant Community Church with a notation in the memo portion. Africa project.
I also have a pay pal account that you can use if you prefer. However, by sending it to the Church, you will be able to write it off as a donation.
I hope to take 1000 dresses with me, so conceivably we could take $15,000.00 with us. Just think of the church we could build in Congo in honor of my friend Reverend Mwenebolongo and................all of the other help we can do with it! I am stoked and I pray you will be as well

This one is made from fat quarters. I used four different prints for this particular dress. It has been sponsored, but if you click on the link above, you can see pictures of some of the other dresses I have made. Some have already been donated, and some are still available for sponsorship. I will be making a new page where the dresses that are available for sponsorship will be featured. Please visit and donate as you are led to.
I was down in Marysville this week, so I took advantage of having no Grands with me to stop at Value Village. Thank you Marlene for talking me into giving up my prejudice against that particular store. Now I can't stay out of if. I think my pocket book may have been better off, had I not listened to you.

Well, anyway, I have this darling little cookie jar that my daughter Tricia bought me several years ago. I absolutely love it. I cringe every time a child touches it. I am so worried one of them will drop the lid on my granite counter and break it. Oh the hold possessions takes on one! Anyway, there was a time it was nearly always full of chocolate chip cookies. Not so much any more. My granddaughter Breanne still checks every time she comes over though. I should surprise her and fill it up again.

So, at Value Village this week, what should pop out at me but this sweet tray to serve my chocolate chip cookies on!! Of course I had to have it! It called my name and I could not put it down. I think I may get a hanger and hang it on the wall beside my jar. It is just too cute!

I really do like kitchy kitchen things. My cupboards are filling up and one day my girls will be going through it wondering why I ever bought the things I have poked away for my enjoyment.
I am just a small time hoarder.

I am planning a luncheon with my lady friends next month and I really do think sweet little treats on this dish will be a part of the table.

In the past few months I have been looking for joy in my life.
I have not been counting the fish though.
By the time I finished reading it, I was literally sobbing.

You know how you associate some flowers with people? My uncle had a gorgeous hydrangea along side his house. When Stan and I bought this house 12 years ago, I just had to have one to plant beside mine. I bought this one. It is on the east side of my house where it thrives beautifully. Two years ago though, someone thought it needed a hard prune. Someone else was just a little bit peeoed when they took a walk through the garden and discovered it. It did not bloom at all the following year, but this year has made up for it. That person has been forgiven. This is my first hydrangea but since have collected several more, including a gorgeous white one. I had plans of planting a hedge of white ones, but never got beyond the original one.

It has been nearly three weeks since Stan and I took our little jaunt up to Southeastern Alaska. Life interceeded and I have not been able to post the final pictures of our trip. I am making time to do so right now.

We left Juneau on Sunday morning, June 30th for the quick flight to Ketchican, the final leg of our little adventure. For some reason, I could not get the setting on my camera to work for me and my in air pictures are not as sharp as I like them to be. If you look into the background of this picture, you can see another glacier. They really are beautiful and the Majesty of God's creation just shouts out at you from high above it.

She lived large, she loved to her fullest, she served her Risen Savior in all that she did. I miss her so much today the 6 month anniversary of her graduation, but I know I will see her again.
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness and faith. Galatians 5:22.

On Thursday, I was having a terrible day. Alone and too much time to think. She is never far from me, but when I am alone she is right here and the hole in my heart breaks open again. I had to leave the house because if I am out in public I manage to hold it together better. So I went to Value Village. I love glass ware and little kitchen decor things. I already had this teapot. I had purchased it years ago when a local store held a clearance sale. Everything you could fit into a shopping bag was $5.00. You can be sure I fit this into the bag, along with lots of other things. The creamer and sugar do not match exactly, but they are by Mary Engelbreit as is the Teapot and have all of the same colors. I paid less than $10.00 for the set. Too bad I don't drink tea!

I did not buy this chicken, but have had my eyes peeled for one just like this one for years and years. During our neighborhood spring garage sale, I stopped at a neighbors house to chat. She had a few things out, including this chicken. Just being a bit helpful, I thought, I said to her that this is an antique and probably worth more than Garage Sale prices. She said I was probably right as it had belonged to her Great Grandmother. It is a very thick glass, not the thin glass you find today. I asked how much she would price it at and she told me to just take it home. I was delighted. I told her it could sit quite happily on this Great Grandma's counter for a while. I do enjoy chickens and have a few more, but have coveted one like this one for years.

I have had this cute little wire basket for years. A sweet niece gave it to me.
I found these little milk jugs and was pretty sure they would fit in the basket. Originally, I bought just four but went back and got two more. All six fit, rather snugly, but they do fit and I love them sitting on my island. The little birdies are left over from the Tea Party I decorated for this spring. Just had to bring them out to add to the vignette.
Shopping did take my mind off of things for a while, until I ran into a young friend at Value Village. When she asked how I was doing, the flood gates opened again. My theory of getting out into the public did not work at all. As we talked, I noticed a woman standing nearby and I could tell she was listening, soon she too was crying. As she entered the conversation, she told me that her 15 year old daughter was killed in an auto accident several years ago. This "club" I belong to certainly has many unwilling members. You run into them every day. All I can say is if you happen to run into some lady out in public bawling her eyes out, have a little empathy, she is not really crazy, she is probably me or another mother just like me trying to work through the hardest days of her life.Gramma 2 Manyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16973534029927632805noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6011392449992702434.post-42740891489315822572013-07-06T14:59:00.000-07:002013-07-06T14:59:14.624-07:00Juneau Day 2

We took a bus out to the Mendenhal Glacier in the afternoon. The walk out to the glacier itself was a rather pleasant one. About one mile along a very well maintained trail. Of course, with my bum knees, it took us much longer than normal but I made it. Along the way, I spotted this huge boulder with the white rock embedded in it. I have no idea what it was, but you can see veins of it running through the rock. One thing about walking slowly, you see so many more things that you miss when you make a beeline to the destination.

Again, I know we missed much of what there is to see because we were afoot. A car would be nice so we could explore the 40+ miles of roads. I really felt like we missed a lot, but after walking all over Sitka and the walking we did do in Juneau, we were beat and made an early retreat to our hotel.Gramma 2 Manyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16973534029927632805noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6011392449992702434.post-80560363333886864122013-07-04T02:15:00.002-07:002013-07-04T02:15:54.450-07:00Happiness is

On Friday morning, Stan and I got up early and caught a flight from Seattle to Juneau Alaska. From there we immediately flew to Sitka. I apologize for some of these pictures. Some were taken from about 30,000 feet in the air. Others were taken from the ground, but through dirty airplane windows and a few were taken through the mist.

We did not have a car on this trip. I would love to go back and rent a car so I could go further out. There is so much that we did not see. I would also like to get out of the downtown tourist area. There are not many roads here at all, but I think we could get a few miles out and take in even more of the breathtaking beauty.

I did not get a picture of the airport, but you landed on an island across a channel from Sitka and then drove across a bridge to reach the city. We were lucky enough to catch a ride with a man whose son picked him up at the airport. They dropped us off on the main street with direction to the "best" breakfast spot in town.

We flew back to Juneau in the evening and spent the night there and walked Juneau on Saturday. Those pictures next.
